While it’s not uncommon to think of the jingle of sleigh bells this time of year, we seldom associate Christmas with the soft hum of a barber’s shears.  But that wasn’t the case this week at Somerville Road elementary school in Decatur, AL as more than 100 young men got a free haircut for Christmas.

This novel idea was the brainchild of April Priest, a teacher’s aide at the school.  She and her husband have a foundation that normally gives presents to needy children this time of year.  But she wanted to do something different, and working with instructor Maurice Ayers, they made it happen.

Five local barbers closed their shops and donated their time to the cause.
