America lost an honest-to-goodness war hero last week when Command Sgt. Major Bennie Adkins passed away in Opelika after contracting the coronavirus.  There are fewer than 100 living Medal of Honor recipients in the U.S.  Adkins was one of them.

Adkins was recognized for his uncommon bravery and valor while serving in Viet Nam.  The citation citing what he did is hard to comprehend.  Adkins was wounded 18 times.

Though a native of Oklahoma, Adkins settled in Opelika where he was in business for many years.

Troy Turner, editor of the Opelika-Auburn News, wrote an excellent piece about the Command Sgt. Major.  It seems especially fitting during these very troubling times.  You can read it here.
