Irony of ironies. Thanks to some excellent reporting by Mary Sell. who covers Montgomery for the Decatur Daily and the Florence TimesDaily, we now know some money intended to support students and classrooms is going, instead, to pick up the tab for legislative expenses.
In fact, the Education Trust Fund is being tapped to pay the state Finance Department for the use of the statehouse! In other words, education dollars are being used to pay for a meeting place for 140 House and Senate members who are debating taking money from education and moving it to the General Fund.
This is about like walking in your house and finding someone there about to walk out the door with your flat screen TV–and inviting them to stay for dinner.
