We hear a GREAT DEAL about “high stakes” testing these days.  You know, those end of the year tests where teachers wear soft-soled shoes to keep from making noise that distracts students as they labor through tests that are not used to evaluate the child’s learning, but the “effectiveness” of the teacher and the school.

A fourth-grader in Hernando County, FL decided to take her concerns to the county school board.  Here is what she had to say.  She is definitely opposed to the Florida end of year test, one reason being that test prep takes too much time away from recess.  I do not know her name, nor which school she attends.  But I do know that this young lady has no trouble getting her point across.

P.S.  For those who might not know, Hernando County is on Florida’s west coast about 50 miles north of Tampa.  The county seat is Brooksville where I once had the good fortune to get stopped by a local policeman for running a red light.
