There is considerable interest in the search for a new state school chief. State school board members have heard from hundreds of people via email and phone calls.
The board will interview six candidates this Thursday, Aug. 4 with the first interview scheduled for 9 a.m. Each candidate will have five minutes for an opening statement, then each of the nine board members will have up to five minutes to ask questions. The candidate gets three minutes for final remarks. There will be a five minute break between candidates.
By virtue of his office, the governor is chair of the state school board and will chair this meeting. The newly-elected vice-chair is Dr. Yvette Richardson.
Interviews will take place on the eighth floor of the Retirement Systems of Alabama headquarters at 201 South Union St. in Montgomery. Since this room only holds about 60 people, seating will be limited.
