Amidst all the talk about politicians run amuck in their efforts to “save” education, the onslaught of out-of-state experts rushing in to reshape Alabama schools and cries of a school funding “surplus” where one does not exist, it is far too easy to become even more cynical and jaded and decide that “good” has passed from the scene.  But we can pause and have our faith renewed by reading the story of Alexx Herndon, a cheerleader at Maryland’s Gwynn Park High.

Alexx fought cancer for three years.  Unfortunately, her battle ended in late May.  But her approach to life even during these times was an inspiration to both her classmates and her community.

We can all take a lesson from this teenager.  That our too brief time in this world should be more about others and less about ourselves.
