Just to be honest, I am floored by the increasing effort to turn the Covid pandemic into a political issue.  When the public health of every citizen in the country is at stake, how do you stoop so low as to place politics first and health second?

One of the main issues is whether people should continue to wear a face mask or not.  Those who oppose doing so cry “freedom.”  This is hogwash.

If you expect to be a full-fledged member of a civilized society, then you have to be willing to do your part.  No way do you say that you are better than everyone else by putting your own selfish interests above what benefits your neighbors.  And that is exactly what it is.  Selfish.

Our society is full of of rules and regulations.  How fast do we drive on the interstate?  What building codes we should abide by?  Do we stop when a school bus stops?

One friend has argued that “those are laws” and we are forced to obey them.  True, but does that mean only laws passsed by some government body must be obeyed.  Of course not..  What about an elementary school where the principal sets rules?  Do you think Nick Saban doesn’t have certain demands of his football players?  Or that he doesn’t discipline those who fail to do what is expected of them?  What about church congregations, are they expected to act a certain way?

Nancy Pelosi is Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives.  In other words, she is boss.  The Republicans can gripe and complain all day long about her–but that doesn’t change that she is Speaker.

She has said that all member of her body will wear a mask when they are on the floor.  Of course, Georgia Congressperson Marjorie Taylor Greene disagrees and compares being made to wear a mask is comparable to the German Holocaust.  Which is ridiculous.  But then, so is Marjorie Taylor Greene.

She has no respect for the body in which she serves.  She has no respect for their rules and regulations and norms.  She thinks she is not required to conduct herself like her colleagues do.

But then, she is a pitiful example of a “public servant.”  In fact, she is only in Washington to serve herself and do her best impression of Donald Trump who is the center of his own universe.

She knows that the more outrageous she is, the more attention she will draw from the right wing media.  The more times she will get her picture on Fox News.

There were 59 brand new freshman house members elected in 2020, including Greene.  How many, besides Greene, can you  name?  Probably none unless your own member was elected for the first time last November.

Greene has already been stripped of any committee assignments.  This is fine with her because she has no desire to work on policy, she just wants to strut around like a peacock and tell us how she is losing her freedom.

If she doesn’t care about the rules Pelozi sets out, then resign her seat and go back to Georgia.  Let someone have the seat who is really interested in working for the good of this country.

I was at the doctor’s office this morning.  Everyone I saw, both staff and patients, was wearing a mask.  Afterwards I went to lunch.  Again, everyone in the restaurant had on a mask.

I will continue to wear a mask.  Especially for one very personal reason.  My son in Mobile has a very, very serious respiratory condition.  Covid would be a great threat to him.  Which is why he has been virtually homebound for a year now.  But if you see Kevin you think he is very healthy.  He is much more trim than I am.  But what if someone I encounter during the day has the same condition he does?  Do I want to be the person who infects them?  Or do I want to even risk such happening?

No.  Not if I can help it.  And if that means wearing a mask, then that’s what I will do.  I will not make some silly claim that “I am losing my freedom.”  What if I am?  To me that is simply an obligation of being a good citizen of this country.  Marjorie Taylor Greene is not a good citizen.  I refuse to act like her.
